In New Zealand, the average price of a house in Auckland is nearing a million NZ dollars, compared to the slightly more reasonable half a million for the rest of the country. The NZ government thought it'd be a good idea if the Reserve Bank did something about this, but they said nah - do it yourself...

The trouble with asking the government to do stuff, is they can always stop doing it and then you're back where you started.

Have they considered just building more houses in Auckland? That's the usual best response to housing being too expensive...
