Indeed. Dreamwidth seemed to lose its momentum around 2010 and never regained it. No mobile app for it is probably the killer.
That two sites (A03 and Tumblr) have replaced LJ (for fandom) is the really interesting thing. It suggests more focused sites instead of broadly featured ones are a viable approach to social media. As long as they can interact nicely.
